Age of Dinosaurs Museum

Look!  Airplane crossing!  This was outside of Winton.  I’ve seen a few of these and finally managed a picture of one.  The most memorable one we saw was on the Queensland coast.  We stopped at a rest area just after the plane sign and while we were there a plane came in for a very low landing right over the top of us.  It was at a crazy angle and I was sure it was crashing!  (It wasn’t!) I’m told … Read More

Life in a Caravan: Longreach

In Longreach we stayed at a very busy caravan park. No grass in sight which is common for much of this part of Australia!  The first night we were there we were very lucky to be approached by a pair of brolgas.  I was fascinated.  They weren’t shy and were obviously hoping for a handout.  They approached several people and were not afraid to come right up to us.  They are so big!  It’s so strange to have these creatures … Read More

Birthdays in the Caravan!

All the birthdays in our family fall in the second half of the year.  The first three birthdays are weeks apart. TurboBug was up first, turning two.  We were on the Sunshine Coast for his birthday.  We did our best to make the day special for him.  We decorated the caravan while Dad took him for a walk.  We know how much 2yo’s love balloons, so we surprised him with plenty of balloons to play with when he returned. Look … Read More

Life in a Caravan: Cairns

We always said we’d never get a caravan.  That’s not real camping, we said.  No way.  Taking a house with you is not camping, we scoffed.  But this isn’t a camping trip.  All of the kids have done tent camping (TurboBug as a baby!), and we’ll make sure they do more of it. This isn’t camping.  This is life, lived on the road.  We do our schooling, our laundry, our car maintenance.  We get eye exams and haircuts.  We do … Read More

Road Tripping in Queensland

There are some great signs along the road in Queensland.  Not sure where they think we’re headed! There can definitely be a lot of time between towns. I guess I should get a picture of a kangaroo roadsign, not sure I’ve got one of those yet.  They are all over the place.  I think we’ve seen more signs for kangaroos than actual kangaroos. When we left Mulambin we drove for several days in a row to get all the way … Read More

Town of 1770

On the way to Mulambin we made a quick stop in the town 1770.  I’ve always been curious about the town but it has always been soooo far away on the map.  But suddenly we were nearby!  We decided to stop in for a quick look.  The town is called 1770 after the year that Captain Cook landed there.  It was the first place he landed in Queensland.   It turned out to be a holiday spot.  A beautiful one.  … Read More
