Sealy Lookout, Coffs Harbour

I had really been looking forward to Coffs Harbour as it is a big tourist destination.  I expected a beach town, but what I found was a much bigger town than I expected that happens to be on the coast.  Not much of a beach feel to it, not helped by the winter weather while we were there.  The caravan park we stayed at was quite large with a water park and big playground and heaps of vans coming and … Read More

Sea Acres Rainforest Centre in Port Macquarie

Port Macquarie is officially koala country.  It’s where we first started seeing koala crossing roadsigns, and there were many.  (Roadsigns, that is, not koalas crossing the roads!) This has nothing to do with the rest of this post.  But this guy finally, after much tooth wiggling and patient anticipation, lost his first tooth.  At seven-and-three-quarters.  It was a long time coming.  And it happened at the caravan park in Bonny HIlls, just south of Port Macquarie.  While we were at … Read More

Life in a Caravan: SIx Months In

We moved out of our house the end of September last year.  We spent about five weeks in America, then came back to our van.  The end of November we started our life on the road.  By the time we got to Sydney, we’d been living in our van for six months. Six months!  The kids are calling this journey our ‘one-year trip’.  At this point I’m pretty sure it will be longer than a year.  We don’t have a … Read More

Camping at Friendly Beaches

After Bicheno we travelled down the east coast of Tasmania to Freycinet National Park.  We made it down the dirt road with our caravan and we were greeted with this lovely view of the ocean.  There aren’t a lot of spaces in this campground that would suit a large van, we were lucky to get there when we did.  Camping here was free with a national parks pass and a ranger came around at one point to check that we … Read More

Just for fun…our cute toddler…

Before we took off in our caravan after the holidays, there was a massive rainstorm in our town.  In less than an hour we had soooo much rain.  Our toddler had never gotten out of the caravan on his own before.  He chose that afternoon, with all those irresistible puddles, for his first escape from the van.  He was so proud of himself. He’s taken to stealing the car keys as well!  A true escape is in the works, I’m … Read More

Warrnambool

We’ve been to Warrnambool several times and stayed in this same caravan park.  We decided to spend nearly a week here, in a familiar place, to just relax, hit the beach, and adjust to life on the road.  This lifestyle is a big adjustment and we needed time to settle in a bit. As soon as we got there the kids were begging to go to the beach.  Little did they know it would be so windy and cold!  We … Read More
