Mon Repos Turtle Centre

Before we started on our trip around Australia I heard about the Mon Repos Turtle Centre, where you can go to watch sea turtles laying eggs on the beach.  That sounds absolutely magical!  It made my list of things we had to see on our trip.  I was so glad we ended up nearby and could visit.  Mon Repos is near Bundaberg, and we stayed in nearby Elliott Heads.  Unfortunately for us, it was the wrong time of year to … Read More

Town of 1770

On the way to Mulambin we made a quick stop in the town 1770.  I’ve always been curious about the town but it has always been soooo far away on the map.  But suddenly we were nearby!  We decided to stop in for a quick look.  The town is called 1770 after the year that Captain Cook landed there.  It was the first place he landed in Queensland.   It turned out to be a holiday spot.  A beautiful one.  … Read More

Bluff Point Walk in Mulambin, QLD

Is this not the prettiest kookaburra ever?  He looks so soft and fluffy.  🙂 While in Mulambin we did the Bluff Point walk.   We’d read you could get a 360 degree view of the area and see turtles swimming in the ocean.  Sounds good! The trail does a circuit and we soon found out it’s one of those popular fitness tracks.  You can choose your direction and do the steep part first or last.  We opted to do the steep … Read More

A Bike Ride on the Beach in Mulambin, QLD

Jumping ahead again! Emu crossing!  Yay!  We soon found out why… The caravan park had its own resident emu!  He was not shy and often came over when he saw us outside.  He wasn’t afraid of the kids at all, he probably knew they were likely to have food. This is officially my favourite kind of palm.  It’s like the branches are in 3D.  I think it’s a foxtail palm. We went across the road to have a bike ride … Read More

Muttonbird Island, Coffs Harbour

It rained a lot while we were in Coffs Harbour.  We watched the weather while we were there and chose a sunny afternoon to walk to Muttonbird Island. TurboBug decided he had to push his pram.  The entire way.  He’s such a toddler.  This walkway goes all the way out to the island.  Ocean on one side, a boat marina and fish market on the other. We found these mosaics along the way.  I’m wondering if these were commissioned or … Read More

The Magical Beach in Dunalley, Tasmania

Our next stop after Freycinet National Park was the Tasman Peninsula.  We stayed in Dunnalley at a spot right next to the beach.  The first day we were there we headed down for a look.  Thank goodness we did because it was the only good beach day we had during our stay there.  The tide was out, the waves were calm, the water was shallow and warm.  But there was something magical about this beach that we hadn’t anticipated. There … Read More
