A Bike Ride on the Beach in Mulambin, QLD

Jumping ahead again! Emu crossing!  Yay!  We soon found out why… The caravan park had its own resident emu!  He was not shy and often came over when he saw us outside.  He wasn’t afraid of the kids at all, he probably knew they were likely to have food. This is officially my favourite kind of palm.  It’s like the branches are in 3D.  I think it’s a foxtail palm. We went across the road to have a bike ride … Read More

Dorrigo National Park

While we were in Coffs Harbour we drove over to Dorrigo National Park.  We’d heard that there was a walk you could do where you get to walk behind a waterfall.  Doesn’t that sound fun?  Something to remember.  On the drive up there were other waterfalls to see.  In fact, part of the drive is called Waterfall Way. The visitor centre was quite nice with a cute shop and cafe. There’s a terrific lookout behind the visitor centre, the Skywalk … Read More

Muttonbird Island, Coffs Harbour

It rained a lot while we were in Coffs Harbour.  We watched the weather while we were there and chose a sunny afternoon to walk to Muttonbird Island. TurboBug decided he had to push his pram.  The entire way.  He’s such a toddler.  This walkway goes all the way out to the island.  Ocean on one side, a boat marina and fish market on the other. We found these mosaics along the way.  I’m wondering if these were commissioned or … Read More

Sea Acres Rainforest Centre in Port Macquarie

Port Macquarie is officially koala country.  It’s where we first started seeing koala crossing roadsigns, and there were many.  (Roadsigns, that is, not koalas crossing the roads!) This has nothing to do with the rest of this post.  But this guy finally, after much tooth wiggling and patient anticipation, lost his first tooth.  At seven-and-three-quarters.  It was a long time coming.  And it happened at the caravan park in Bonny HIlls, just south of Port Macquarie.  While we were at … Read More

The Walk To Grass Point

We knew we’d only have a couple of nights on Bruny Island, so after we set up camp we drove down to Adventure Bay to do the walk to Grass Point.  The kids were not too thrilled to be taking off so soon after we got there, they wanted the chance to explore the campsite.  The Grass Point walk is part of the Fluted Cape Walk in South Bruny National Park, which is one of the 60 Great Short Walks … Read More

Tahune AirWalk, part two

Here’s part one. By the time we made it near the treetop walk we were getting tired, and the kids were starting to complain again.  Fortunately we ran into some people who pointed us in a different direction than the map was telling us to go.  We went in the back way to the airwalk, but it was closer and saved us a few steps. It’s very hard to portray how high up we were.  The walkways were covered in … Read More
