Byron Bay – Most Easterly Point in Australia!

While we were staying in Hastings Point we drove down to Byron Bay to visit the most eastern point on the Australian mainland.  It’s at the Cape Byron lighthouse, which is a state conservation area and a really popular spot, especially on the weekend!  We drove up to the top only to find it too crowded to park.  We were lucky to find a spot not too far down the drive so we were able to easily walk up to … Read More

Muttonbird Island, Coffs Harbour

It rained a lot while we were in Coffs Harbour.  We watched the weather while we were there and chose a sunny afternoon to walk to Muttonbird Island. TurboBug decided he had to push his pram.  The entire way.  He’s such a toddler.  This walkway goes all the way out to the island.  Ocean on one side, a boat marina and fish market on the other. We found these mosaics along the way.  I’m wondering if these were commissioned or … Read More

Sealy Lookout, Coffs Harbour

I had really been looking forward to Coffs Harbour as it is a big tourist destination.  I expected a beach town, but what I found was a much bigger town than I expected that happens to be on the coast.  Not much of a beach feel to it, not helped by the winter weather while we were there.  The caravan park we stayed at was quite large with a water park and big playground and heaps of vans coming and … Read More

SYdney: Climbing the Bridge

Okay, we didn’t really get to do the bridge climb.  For the official climb you have to be at least 10 years old, which is only half of us.  Plus, it’s pricey.  I hope all the kids will do it one day, and Sean and I would love to also, so hopefully we’ll all get the chance on some future trip. Instead we climbed to the Pylon Lookout, which was the perfect way for us to experience the Sydney Harbour … Read More

Bruny Island: The Neck

The north and south ends of Bruny Island come together in a spectacular isthmus.  A rather large set of steps awaits any who want to climb up and see the stunning view. We counted on the way back down and there were over two hundred steps.  Look how narrow this strip of land is.  Ocean on one side… And ocean on the other.  It really feels like a unique spot. There’s a memorial to Truganini, and a nearby sign that … Read More

Hobart, Tasmania: Mt Wellington

Another road sign to add to my collection!  This wombat sign was somewhere between Dunalley on the Tasman Peninsula and Hobart. Our drive into Hobart included not just one bridge… Not just two bridges… But three, yes, three bridges!  Okay, the first two were causeways.  The last one is the Tasman Bridge. Here’s a glimpse of Hobart as we were crossing the Tasman Bridge over the Derwent River.  Hobart is so picturesque.  Tasmania only has about 500,000 people and half … Read More
